  • Why 3D ultrasound?  3d ultrasound can show unique features of the baby that may not be as easily identified with 2D such as feet, hair, ears.

  • When should I get a 3D ultrasound? Tricky question because we can do 3D at any gestational age. However, if you want to come for a 3D when you can see squishy cheeks and maybe even hair, we recommend coming between 27 - 33 weeks.

  • Do all doctors’ offices provide 3D ultrasound? In short answer, no. Most often they have the equipment, but they don’t have the time to wait for beautiful 3D images. It often takes patience and waiting which most doctors’ offices will not have the time for because they are so incredibly busy making sure baby is safe. That is absolutely necessary, so come to us to be able to sit back, relax, and watch your baby be cute.

  • 2D, 3D, 4D, HDLIVE, 5D… what’s the difference?!  2D ultrasound is the standard black and white picture you most often see. A 3D is a 3 dimensional picture which means (for example) we can see the entire set of lips rather than just the silhouette. 4D ultrasound is used to show movement while still giving the 3 dimensional image. So think of this like a video versus a picture. HDLive is a setting that GE created to help enhance 3D and 4D. With this feature we can move the lighting to show different highlights and shadows on your baby’s picture. 5D is the same thing as our 4D HDLive, but isn’t through GE. So GE gave 5D a special name for their company (HDLive)

  • Is ultrasound safe for baby? Ultrasound is the gold standard for prenatal imaging. This means it is the first choice. Ultrasound uses zero radiation to create images. Instead, it gives off high frequency sound waves that bounce off the fluid, tissue, and bones in our bodies. Our ultrasound machine then registers how fast those sound waves came back to the machine so it can create an image. Therefore, ultrasound is considered safe for prenatal imaging. It isn’t recommended to scan for hours consecutively, but we can use ultrasound quite frequently to take a peek at your little one.
